Nestled in the picturesque countryside of Northumberland, and on the edge of Northumberland’s National Park, this charming, detached cottage offers a tranquil retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Howtel Lane Cottage offers spacious accommodation over two principal floors, with private driveway and surrounding garden grounds. The cottage extends to around 1,996 Sq Ft / 186 Sq M and is designed in an upside-down configuration. The ground floor comprises a spacious master bedroom with large doors to offer an array of light, and gives access out to a decked patio, which is the perfect spot for al fresco dining or simply relaxing in the fresh air. The master bedroom further benefits from en suite bathroom and a walk-in wardrobe. There is a further double bedroom with en suite shower room, whilst bedrooms 3 and 4 are supported by the family bathroom on the ground floor.

A central staircase leads to the first floor and into the open plan dining kitchen. The kitchen offers a range of base units with ample space for a dining table. Beyond lies the family snug/sitting room with a large log burner which provides heat to both the kitchen and snug.

The main feature of the first floor is a stunning sitting room; this large, welcoming room benefits from French doors which lead out to a decked balcony and have panoramic views over the garden and surrounding countryside. The cottage is flooded with natural light, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere throughout.

Howtel Lane Cottage has a mature and well establish surrounding large garden with many different areas to enjoy and is a wonderful feature of the property. A particularly lovely spot is the decked patio off the master bedroom.

The garden further benefits from a pond, hot tub, summer house, and 2 garden sheds, a large garage with electric door, and parking for numerous cars.

Area Insights

Howtel Lane Cottage enjoys unspoiled and breathtaking views of the Cheviot Hills and the North Northumberland National Park. The small and popular market town of Wooler, known as the ‘Gateway to the Cheviots’, lies 8 miles from the cottage and was listed in the Sunday Times ‘best places to live’ list.

Wooler is situated in one of the more sparsely populated areas in England, however Edinburgh to the north and Newcastle to the south are still easily accessible. Berwick East Coast mainline train station is only eighteen miles away. With its extremely low crime rate, vibrant community spirit, down to earth friendly people, independent shops, and local services, it is easy to see why Wooler is so popular amongst tourists and residents.

The town has excellent local amenities which include Cheviot Farm Bakery, TR Johnson Butcher, The Good Life Deli, The Chocolate Box, Ad Gefrin Whiskey Distillery, The Co-op Supermarket, Budgen’s Convenience Store and numerous independent pubs, cafes, and restaurants. Schools include Glendale Middle School and Wooler First School; both have excellent reputations.

Wooler has an array of sporting activities to suit everyone (pilates, yoga, football, badminton, golf, cricket, tennis) and it also offers an abundance of cycling, walking, wildlife, horse riding and birdwatching.

Wooler sits on the edge of The Northumberland National Park as well as being surrounded by the historical Bronze and Iron Age sites and the haunted Chillingham Castle. The town provides access to the Berwickshire and Northumbrian east coast. The picturesque seaside towns of Craster, Bamburgh and Seahouses are easily accessible as are the ancient Borders towns of Coldstream, Kelso, and Melrose.

The market town of Berwick-Upon-Tweed sits 17 miles North-East of Howtel Lane Cottage. It is well-known for its stunning architecture and historical Castle walls. It has a wide range of amenities including 5 national supermarkets and schooling for all ages. Berwick also has a selection of leisure and sports clubs, banks, public houses, cafes, restaurants and The Malting theatre and cinema. Country and sporting pursuits are also readily available in the nearby area, including hill walking, salmon and trout fishing, riding, hunting, and shooting. There are plenty of excellent golf courses available relatively locally, such as: Wooler, Bamburgh, Alnwick, Seahouses, Berwick, Goswick, Eyemouth and the Hirsel Golf Club in Coldstream.

In addition to the A1 trunk road which provides easy access to both Edinburgh and Newcastle, Berwick-Upon-Tweed has a mainline railway station which has regular trains to Edinburgh, Newcastle, and London.
